Peterloo, directed by Mike Leigh, looks ahead to the 200th anniversary of the Peterloo Massacre of 16 August 1819, in which fifteen people were killed. The film is itself making history, with its UK premiere taking place in the city where it happened.

The premiere of Peterloo is the first to take place outside the capital as part of the BFI London Film Festival and will be screened on 17 October at Manchester’s HOME arts centre. It will be relayed live to cinemas around the UK, along with a Q&A session, before being released nationwide on 2 November.

To mark the 199th anniversary of the massacre on 16 August, Bolton-born Peterloo star Maxine Peake joined commemorations in Manchester and read out the names of those who died. Visit this website for a list of people connected with Peterloo.
