Explore the 1926 Irish census: learn how to use it, its history, and how it differs from earlier records.
The 1926 census will be released on 18th April, one hundred years to the day it was taken.
It covers the 26 counties of the modern Republic of Ireland, then known as the Irish Free State.
15 years had passed since the previous census (in 1911), during which Ireland experienced World War I, the Spanish flu pandemic, and the partition of the island into two jurisdictions.
This tour:
• demonstrates how to use the 1926 census;
• gives the background to this newly available census;
• and examines differences from previous Irish censuses.
