TheGenealogist has announced the release of over 140,000 names from War Memorial records from countries including the UK, Australia and the US.

TheGenealogist has added 142,861 new individuals to its War Memorial collection, bringing the total number of fully searchable War Memorial Records on the site to over 1,688,000.

The records have been transcribed with their location plotted on Map Explorer™ so that users of the website can find the names of ancestors who made the ultimate sacrifice. These War Memorials, from a variety of places in the UK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United States, can be used to find ancestors and reveal organisations, churches, towns and communities that they had belonged to.

For example, workplace memorials may reveal where an ancestor worked in civilian life, past pupils and staff of a school or university may be mentioned on a plaque within an educational establishment, and names in a church or other place of worship can tell us about religious affiliation.
