This limited time offer gives researchers the chance to discover their ancestors’ lives 100 years ago in more detail than ever before.

Family history website FindMyPast is offering a 50% off record purchases of the 1921 Census of England and Wales.

For 24 hours only, budding family historians can get to know their ancestors a little better with this limited-time, half-price discount. The Census could reveal where they were living, what they were doing and who they were doing it with in the summer of 1921.

Using the 1921 Census

The 1921 Census records are invaluable when filling in gaps in the family tree, but they have also offered poignant insights for members into the detail of their ancestors’ lives. One community member found out through the 1921 Census records that their grandparents adopted their young nephew after he was orphaned, explaining: “Not only did they give him a home, but they also ensured he had a job when he grew up. This tells me so much about their kindness and good character.”

After being locked away for a hundred years, the 1921 Census was released exclusively online at Findmypast on 6 January 2022, in partnership with The National Archives and the Office for National Statistics. Three years of intensive digitisation and conservation work was undertaken in the largest digitisation project ever completed by The National Archives and Findmypast to bring these precious records of the past online for the very first time.

Offer details

In taking advantage of this offer, members gain access to the last significant census release for England and Wales for 30 years; the 1931 Census was destroyed in a fire, and the 1941 Census was not taken due to the Second World War. The 1951 Census won’t be available until 2052 to comply with the 100-year-rule.

Mary McKee, Head of Content Publishing at Findmypast, said: “The 1921 Census is an unprecedented opportunity to look through a window in time to census night 100 years ago. These records allow us to understand what life was like for our ancestors during a very turbulent period, and in greater detail than in previous censuses. Since launching in January, thousands of people have used these records to unlock family mysteries and uncover amazing details about their ancestors. We’re excited to offer even more family historians the chance to discover their unique family stories using the 1921 Census at half the price.”
