A new family history website, www.ukcensusonline.com, has been launched by the team behind TheGenealogist.co.uk.

UKCensusOnline.com provides access to census records for England and Wales from 1841 to 1911, and includes searchable transcripts with original images. You can perform a name search free, but you will need to purchase a subscription to take advantage of the keyword search facility. Also available are the official General Register Office birth, marriage and death (BMD) indexes for England and Wales from 1837 to 2005.

Prices start from £6.95 for a month’s access to just the BMDs, and £14.95 for a month’s access to the complete census records. Its annual census and BMDs subscription is £69.95, making it cheaper than Ancestry or findmypast.co.uk for BMD and census records – although these two sites also offer access to Scottish census indexes within their basic packages. It’s always worth double-checking prices and which record collections are included for your money before subscribing to any data website. To access a wider range of record collections there are links from UKCensusOnline.com to upgrade to a subscription to TheGenealogist.
