Tottenham Hotspur, a Premier League football club, was founded on 5 September 1882

On this day in history, 1882: Tottenham Hotspur, a Premier League football club, is founded, under the name Hotspur F.C., finding its home on White Hart Lane in North London. It was quick to win the FA Cup for the first time in 1901 and has gone on to win a further 7 times. This made it the only non-league club to win since it was set up.

The team played its first matches on Tottenham marshes on public pitches, staying there for the first six years it was formed. Since beginning in these modest roots, the football team has moved into a proper stadium and as recently as 2007 has been discussing plans to increase capacity, making more room for its many fans to be a part of the atmosphere that comes with a live match.
