Pam Smith will be speaking on ‘Restoring a community – the Rillington one-place study’ at Family Tree Live

Introducing Pam Smith’s talk:

In her presentation Pam Smith will utilise family and local history data from a variety of primary and secondary sources to reconstitute a multi-dimensional community from Domesday to present day.

Pam Smith’s research approach will demonstrate how – by using a unique database application to capture and consider the archival records, oral history, maps, old postcards and photographs – the story of the ancient parish of Rillington, North Yorkshire can be told once more.

This talk illustrates how a bespoke local history archive was created, enabling the outcomes of population levels, migration, mortality and occupations to be examined alongside family history and house history. In addition it will show family historians the benefits of using a study to locate ancestors and research their ‘local world’.

This talk is for you if you’re keen to master the skills and approach needed to undertake an indepth local history project, or if you wish to enhance your family history by learning about your ancestors’ locality.
