The Duke of Windsor married Wallis Warfield Simpson on 3 June 1937

On 3 June 1937, the Duke of Windsor married Wallis Warfield Simpson in France. As King Edward VIII, he had abdicated the British throne in December 1936 to marry Simpson, a divorced American. The Duke was one of the shortest reigning British monarchs in history and was succeeded by his younger brother, Albert, who became King George VI.
