Demolition threat to journeymen weavers' houses revealed by The Huguenots of Spitalfields organisation

The Huguenots of Spitalfields organisation has issued a call to members of the public to help secure the future of historic houses at 3 Club Row, London, which are threatened with demolition.

The pictured buildings at 3 and 5 Club Row are two survivors of six four-room terraces built between 1764 and 1766 for Huguenot weavers who fled to England from France. These are among the last vestiges of workshops and dwellings where Huguenot craftspeople plied their trade in London.

A newsletter from the Huguenots of Spitalfields explained: 'We are particularly frustrated as the charity submitted an application to Tower Hamlets to have seven journeyman weavers'  houses Locally Listed in January 2017 and, despite frequent approaches, we received a negative reply only last week.
