Each day at Family Tree Live we’re planning a packed programme of workshops and the range of topics to choose from is a veritable feast. Read on for a sneak peek of some of the topics and tutors who will be on hand to help you learn new family history skills.

If you’re starting out tracing your family tree, we’ve got just the workshops for you. Choose from topics such as: ‘Your first three steps in family history’ with professional genealogist Nikki Paine, ‘Stuck at the start: ideal advice for adoptees’ with Dr Penny Walters (author of Ethical Dilemmas in Genealogy), ‘Discover your Victorian ancestors in the census’ with Alison Spring (currently studying for a Masters at the Uni of Dundee), and ‘Getting started: how to build your family tree on MyHeritage.com’ with Chief Genealogist at MyHeritage, Daniel Horowitz.
Ready to step up your research?
Family history is the area of history for you if you love old records and getting the chance to pour over historic documents. To help you get to grips with these genealogical archive gems check in with these workshops: ‘Learn to read old handwriting’ with Susie Douglas (founder of #AncestryHour), ‘Tips for reading Victorian handwriting’ with author and living historian Dr Janet Few, ‘Finding parish registers’ with Caroline Norton, ‘Top tips for home archiving: ways to preserve, store and organise your family history with MyHistory supplies’ with Jackie Depelle, or ‘Latin for family historians’ with Sylvia Dibbs, Chair of the Catholic Family History Society.

Why not try ‘Routes to tracing European ancestors’ with Julie Goucher (the person behind the international surname project – the Orlando One-Name Study), ‘Tracing Welsh family history’ with Beryl Evans, Research Services Manager at the National Library of Wales, ‘Sources to put flesh on the bones back to the 1700s’ with author Keith Gregson, or ‘The Railway Work, Life & Death Project’ with Dr Mike Esbester of the University of Portsmouth.

- The workshops will take place at Family Tree Live, Alexandra Palace, London, 26 & 27 April 2019. Come along and get the chance take your seat at a workshop table (max 10 people per table) with a dedicated expert tutor.
