Gen Z (those born between the mid 1990s and 2010) are also setting their own new Christmas traditions, such as tracking Santa digitally.

Ancestry's new research shows that Gen Z are keeping Royal Christmas traditions alive, with over half (53%) of 18- to 34-year-olds who celebrate Christmas planning to tune in to the King’s Christmas Day speech this year.

You can also expect to see families continue to crack out the jokes, as four in five (80%) will continue the tradition of Christmas crackers.

Setting new Christmas traditions

Although age-old traditions are strong amongst Gen Z, we are beginning to see new ones emerge, such as:

  • Tracking Santa digitally (23%)
  • Wearing matching family pyjamas (22%)
  • A meat-free Christmas dinner (16%)
