204c93bf-3c2e-426c-82b1-2b1e2e08e424

Learn how to dig deeper into your family history in Ireland when you gain more knowledge about the lay of the land and the historic records that give clues to ancestral locations.

Why is a knowledge of land records useful for family history research in Ireland?
Many of the problems we face in tracing our families back in Ireland can be overcome with the use of land records.

In his presentation Chris Paton will demonstrate how to use clues about location from disparate sources. These include records with which we may be very familiar: civil registration, census, street directories, and Griffiths’ Valuation. He’ll explain more specialist collections too such as the Landed Estates Court Rentals, the Registry of Deeds (later the Land Registry) and the Books of Survey and Distribution.

So many of have a tantalising hint that we have an ancestor from ‘Ireland’. But how much more exciting to learn more precisely where our ancestors came from.
Join us for Chris Paton’s expert talk and learn about the record collections that you can explore to help you accomplish this goal – of where your ancestors once lived in Ireland.

The meeting will take place on Zoom, on Wednesday 8 April, 18:30pm (UK time)
