In advance of the return of the Bayeux Tapestry to British soil in an exhibition later in 2026, we will be speaking with Tom Licence, professor of Medieval History at the University of East Anglia, who has a particular interest in the period surrounding the Norman Conquest.
In an interview with Helen Tovey, Professor Licence will be speaking on:

• Coverage of the events & people it depicts
• And the significance of the upcoming Bayeux Tapestry exhibition.

About the speaker
Prof Tom Licence is a British historian specialising in the period 950–1200, with interests in the Norman Conquest, saints' cults, and Latin literature.
He is Professor of Medieval History and Literature at the University of East Anglia, a former director of the University’s Centre of East Anglian Studies, and the author of several highly regarded books including Edward the Confessor (from Yale University Press’ The English Monarchs series).
He is also a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, the Society of Antiquaries and the Higher Education Academy.
