Genealogist Frances Daly is here to set the scene of life in Ireland during a transformative decade, and to provide the historical context within which the 1926 Census of Ireland was taken. What was the world of your ancestors like?

In her presentation Frances Daly will cover the history of Ireland from 1922, during which Ireland underwent tremendous unheaval. This was the Ireland of our ancestors during the era of the 1926 Census, which is being released on 18th April 2026.

In her presentation, Frances Daly will look at the Anti-Treaty and Pro-Treaty circumstances and the Civil War. She will explore the economic, health, medical care and housing of the inhabitants of Ireland. She will reflect on family life, values and religion, on the impact of emigration, and on the culture that flourished at the time.
