The month of May marks Local and Community History month in the UK and to celebrate, the UK’s most popular heritage line, North Yorkshire Moors Railway, is calling on visitors that have travelled along the line to share their memories with the attraction.

Share your memories of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway

Laura Strangeway, Head of Marketing at North Yorkshire Moors Railway, said: “Amongst all the doom and gloom that’s dominating the headlines at the moment, we thought it would be nice to reminisce on happier times and come together as a community, to share our experiences of this incredible part of the world.

“It’s not called God’s own county for nothing! There’s a rich and vibrant history in the area and we’d love to hear everyone’s stories, see their old photos and journey back in time with them. Especially at the moment, whilst so many people are confined to their homes, it’s a nice way to bring the outside in.

“Anyone who has a story or memory they’d like to share with us, can just send a message to one of our social media channels and we’ll keep pushing their stories out, with #localhistory20 for others to read, experience, and enjoy.”

Trips of the future

In light of current events, and adhering to Government advice, the opening of North Yorkshire Moors Railway’s 2020 season has been delayed until further notice. Anyone with an existing bookings in June and the first two weeks of July are currently being contacted by the charity’s Customer Service Team. If you have any enquiries, please email info@nymr.co.uk.

Support this historic railway

Please help the Railway by supporting the railway’s Crisis Appeal. It could potentially lose up to £2 million and figures of this magnitude could threaten its very existence. If you’re able, please support the NYMR to ensure it survives, and visit nymr.co.uk/ crisis-fund
