Mary was born around 1806 in Coventry. Her career as a midwife spanned from 1847 to 1875. In that time, she helped deliver 34 sets of twins, and sadly experienced 21 deaths during the births she attended.

In the mid 19th century, home births were normal practice and Mary would have been a well known figure in the area that she covered. The length of her service means that she might possibly have delivered babies for more than one generation of a family.
