AncestryDNA have announced a 'significant update' to their Genetic Communities, with more than fifty updated communities to help users to enjoy more granular insights into their heritage.
Ancestry DNA's Genetic CommunitiesTM use advanced technology and evolving DNA science to connect people through their DNA to the places their ancestors likely lived and the paths they might have followed to get there over the past 75-300 years.
How does it work?
Ancestry DNA's technology detects groups of AncestryDNA members who are most likely connected because they share recent ancestors who came from the same community or culture. Using their Genetic Communities technology, they analyse genetic connections between groups of AncestryDNA members and then use public family trees, ethnicity data, and historical records to determine where this group of people lived over time.
The communities included in this latest update are:
- The Balkans (10 communities)
- East Africa (newly-defined community)
- Mediterranean (30 communities)
- Western Asia (15 communities)
