Family Tree Editor Helen Tovey will present a family history workshop as part of a programme of talks and seminars led by Dr Anna Whitlock at this year's Chalke Valley History Festival.

The annual Daily Mail Chalke Valley Festival takes place from 26 June to 2 July in Church Bottom, Broad Chalke, near Salisbury, and this year’s event includes a My Heritage and Ancestry study morning on 30 June. During this special event, broadcaster Peter Snow will discuss his lifelong obsession with keeping scrapbooks, author Richard Beard will talk about his personal search for his family history and a childhood tragedy he knew little about, and Roger Hutchinson will explain the story of the national UK census and what it can reveal.

The study morning will be followed by lunch with the featured experts. Tickets are £75. For information, or to make a booking, visit the Chalke Valley History Festival website.

Other distinguished historians and well-known commentators are again headlining the festival’s speaker programme, including James Holland, Max Hastings, Ken Clarke, Suzannah Lipscomb, Monty Don, David Owen, Artemis Cooper, Chris Patten, Don McCullin, Philippe Sands, Harriet Harman, Bettany Hughes, Matt Frei, Claire Tomalin, Michael Buerk, Jenni Murray, Antony Beevor, Anita Anand and William Dalrymple.

Topics range from the English Civil War and Shakespeare’s World to Great Victorians and the lifeboats of Dunkirk. Along with a sword school, WW1 trench, free pop-up talks and history walks, living history events will cover swathes of history, from the Anglo-Saxons through to Wellington’s armies and the two world wars.

Pre-booked entry tickets for the festival range from £5.50-£12, family £33, and cover historical displays, including air displays. Tickets for the family history study morning and lunch, £75. Visit the festival website for more information and tickets.
