George V and Mary of Teck are crowned King and Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland
On this day in history, 1911: Queen Victoria’s grandson George V and Mary of Teck are crowned King and Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. King George V was the first monarch of the House of Windsor, which he renamed in 1917 from the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha as a result of anti-German public sentiment during the First World War.
Family historians can trace their ancestors in the year of George V’s coronation thanks to the 1911 Census, which is widely available on genealogy websites.
