We are buzzing – Come & join us!

There’s nothing like the start of a new year to inspire you to set new goals and dreams for the year to come. And when it comes to tracing your family’s history we’ve got just the ticket to help you…

Beavering away behind the scenes the Family Tree Live team has been carefully putting together the programme of lectures and workshops for the 2020 show. Whether you’re on a mission to learn new family history skills, tackle new genealogy projects or explore the ever-evolving brave new world of DNA, we’ve got topics that will help you take the next step in tracing your roots. While the things you wish to learn about might seem a bit daunting to you, the learning environment at Family Tree Live definitely isn’t!

Size matters

Pull up your seat at one of the Family Tree Live workshop tables and you’ll find yourself immersed in a friendly, hands-on family history session. With a maximum of 10 fellow students, the workshops are a cosy discovery experience with big learning potential In your workshop, your tutor will guide you through the lesson, giving you the opportunity to try things out for yourself, to ask questions and to gain practical new-found knowledge!

Take in a talk

Going to a family history talk is something always to be looked forward to, and at Family Tree Live you’ll be able to select your favourites from so many topics – all under one roof. Your expert speakers will include DNA super sleuths such as Donna Rutherford and Michelle Leonard and our very own Karen Evans (see her DNA Workshop series, starting in the January issue of Family Tree). Online records and lesser-known sources will be covered by specialists such as Peter Christian and Mia Bennet. While solutions to help you smash through your research brickwalls and do your family history on a budget will be provided by Ian Waller and Alison Spring (the Frugal Genealogist) respectively.

Shop local

Family Tree Live is proud to be partnering with the Family History Federation – the umbrella organisation for family history societies – and at the show you’ll get the chance to speak to family historians with specialist knowledge of that local area that’s close to your heart. Family history’s all about making connections and by chatting to the volunteers who work so hard for their societies you’ll be learn much about the places your ancestors once came from, lived and loved.
