Crop failure? Bad weather? Fatalities? All such circumstances and more were blamed on witches during the late Middle Ages. This presentation will look at the history of witch hunts and guidance will be offered to research the topic further
During the late Middle Ages, there was widespread belief and fear that there were witches at work casting evil spells that caused crops to wither, destructive weather to hasten destruction on the land and even people to die.
The presentation will examine the history of witchcraft accusations in the context of environmental and climatic conditions.
Histories of witch hunts in Europe, the British Isles and North America will be outlined.
Advice will be offered to family historians in how to find information about witchcraft and events that many show whether ancestors may have been involved in the proceedings and outcomes of historic witch trials.
When & where?
The meeting will take place on Zoom, on Monday 11th November. (UK time)
