Do you have difficulty transcribing old handwriting? This session will give an introduction of Scottish palaeography – specifically the transcribing of old handwriting.

Session Two: Transcription of Scottish documents (1500-1750)
In this second session (the first covered how to read old handwriting), we will look closely at how you might accurately transcribe historical records and methods of transcription.

There will be practical exercises encouraging attendees to decipher:
•    common phrases
•    abbreviations and contractions
•    date writing conventions
