NUI Galway’s Irish Ancestry Summer School outlines the origins of people in Ireland from earliest times and then traces the development of society on this island through time down to the present day, with a special emphasis on the West of Ireland. This five-day course includes fieldtrips to various sites of archaeological, historical and genealogical importance in the West of Ireland. It includes lectures on ancient DNA studies, prehistoric demographics, early tribal groupings, later medieval clan history, post-medieval lifeways, history and genealogy given by some of Ireland’s leading scholars who are based at NUI Galway.
