Chiddingstone Hyders

16 09 2007

Thomas Hyder married Abigail Hodge on 8th November 1811 in Chiddingstone. They had the following children James, Thomas, Eleanor, Mary Ann, Emma, Isaac, William, George, Amos, Robert and  Jesse.

I believe Thomas’s parents were a Joseph Hyder and Martha Hyder nee Osborne who were married in Tonbridge in 1783.

Thomas son of Thomas and Abigail married first to a Charlotte Plumb in Croydon. Charlotte died during or after childbirth. Cant find any record of what happened to their little daughter she may have died at this time as well.

Thomas remarried an Ellen Stratton nee Steer they had two daughters Helen and Elizabeth both born in Figges Marsh in Mitcham Surrey. They then migrated to Australia in 1851 settling in Melbourne Victoria where two more children were born. Two sons a William Alexander and a James.

Thomas died at aged 40 in Melbourne and is buried at the Beaumaris Wesleyan Cemetery in Brighton Melbourne.

Ellen went on to remarry a further two times with her dying in Marnoo Victoria.

Have most of the descendents from the four children of Thomas and Ellen Hyder. Have publised a book and held two family reunions.

Hyders in Goole Yorkshire

16 09 2007

I have recently discovered four Hyder children namely Frederick, George, Emma and William moved with there mother Mary Harvey nee Hyder up to the Goole area.

The children in 1871 were in North Surrey District school in Croydon, then they are found in Goole in 1881 living with their mother and new step father. There father Amos stayed in Croydon Surrey

Have found the marriages and some of the children for the above mentioned children and have now got some more new family members living both in Goole and here in Australia.
