			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>My name is David Smith and I manage the Guild of One Name Studies (GOONS) study into the surname Gilkes and its variants. I have several large databases of information including an extraction from the GRO birth, marriage and death indexes, UK census returns between 1841 and 1901, wills and many other assorted references from worldwide sources.</p>
<p>I am in contact with a number of like minded researchers and have managed to assemble numerous family trees. I have also been able to put long lost cousins back in touch with each other.</p>
<p>Variations on the surname are Gelkes, Gelks, Ghilkes, Ghilks, Gilks, Gylkes, Gylkes, Jelkes, Jelks, Jilkes and Jilks.</p>
